To Hat, or not to Hat

Well folks, it’s the time of Weddings and Events galore now Summer seems to be finally upon us. Ascot has been, York and Goodwood races are yet to come and no doubt you will be expected to attend at least one event, be it a wedding or christening.

No matter what event you are going to, the age old panic attack of  ‘I have nothing to wear’, will no doubt feature in your mind, dangerously close to the event in hand. The solution? I can’t offer a miracle ‘one dress fits and suits all’ I’m afraid , but I can offer some advice in that choosing your accessories carefully, can mean an otherwise ill fitting or plain dress can become a backdrop to what is essentially, ‘accessory art’.

I am of course referring to anything from a stunning necklace, sparkly shoe clips, designer handbag, a beautiful wrap or a striking hat. Take for example our mini top hats. They come in different sizes so everyone from the discreet accessorizer to the ‘I want people to notice me’ woman, can have the opportunity to look glamorous, sexy or chic with just this one item. One of the best thing about our top hats is that the majority, being one-off’s, are ready to ship out and can even be with you on a Saturday morning – just in time for that last minute change of mind.

And if you happen to have been born with a well organised head on your shoulders? Then lucky for you that we can make a hat to compliment your outfit.

It’s all a Juggling Act

I love, love, love this job. I really do. I want to be doing it 24/7, updating the site so it’s more than ready to launch, making new masks and mini hats and getting excited when I come up with a new idea or creation. There is, however, one little thing that is getting in the way… ‘Work’,  and juggling my full time j0b, with the new job I really want to be doing instead.

Yes, like many other people who launch a new website, they often have full time jobs going at the same time, and I am no different.  Presently, and for the last 12 years, I have been a specialist in Stained Glass (mainly church restoration as well as private commissions) and although I love my work, my transition into mask and hat making was based on my need to be creative. Most people think that my present job is hugely creative, but alas, it is far from it. Also, being self-employed, it has the pitfalls of late nights and ‘what are weekends?’ hounding it. Yet making my masks and hats, I have quite happily sat down till the early hours of the morning, or the whole of the weekend, consumed in threading tiny beads onto wires or glueing individual diamantes onto the edge of a mask and I don’t ever resent it, not one bit.

For now, it seems that I am going to get so good at juggling, that I will soon be able to perform in a circus.
