A few months ago, the very lovely Helen (from Machin Mayer Photography) asked me to be involved in one of her Bridal Shoots she was planning. It was a black & white theme called ‘Magpie Bride’ and I was to supply a variety of masks for the shoot, mainly in the monochrome colour scheme.
The final images she sent me were stunning and a break from the classic Venetian Bride look.

Styled by Thea Lewis-Yates – we supplied only our high end masks to be used for this photo shoot. The masquerade masks you can see in the image were designed and made by us, with the male mask being our Fashion Studded Mask (available here) and our gorgeous gold Baroque Venetian Mask (a one of a kind mask – find something similar here or have one commissioned)
The very lovely Thea Lewis-Yates contacted me last year regarding an underwater shoot she was styling for Zena Holloway (the amazing Underwater Photographer) They wanted a butterfly mask that would be waterproof with dozens of butterflies sticking out from it – a fun challenge! I started with a hard resin Venetian base (not a paper mache one as that would have just disintegrated), attached layers of feathered butterflies to it then added some felt fabric which has a good bond onto the base. I also sandwiched the ribbons under this felt to make sure they were super secure. Lastly, the mask was coated in a thin solution of pva glue to make it fully waterproof. Here is the original mask (which was requested in all white):-
We were honoured to be featured in the fabulous Grace Ormonde Wedding Style Magazine last year (Fall 2013 edition), in a Bridal Feature called ‘Under a Tuscan Spell’.
The theme was black & white Bridal dresses with black masquerade masks – supplied by us were some gorgeous Venetian Metal Filigree Masks and one of our unique black lace masks.
Last night I was sat designing some new masks, when my twitter feed started going crazy.
Now I’ve been used to receiving tweets about who my fellower tweeters are following, but imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw that Theo Paphitis has ReTweeted my tweet for the #sbs!! For those in the dark about #sbs – it means ‘Small Business Sunday’. Started by Theo in 2010, every Sunday between certain hours, businesses can tweet Theo in the hope that they will be one of 6 chosen to have their tweet re-tweeted by Theo the following day.
So yes, I got very lucky and I have been trying (although not every Sunday admittedly) for at least a year.
What does #SBS mean for me? Ask me that question in a few months time. For now, I’ve gained some new followers, lots of shares of my posts on twitter and hopefully some good networking from the #SBS family. Oh, and I get to put that great logo on my website that you clicked through on ;o).
